Junior Redbirds

American Legion 'Prep' baseball is a year of transition in which 13-year-old players are introduced to a more advanced level of baseball. For some, it is their first experience on the 90-foot base path.

Our Prep Team mission is three fold, to develop players, establish a comradery among the players, and field a team that can compete with top players from around the state of Pennsylvania.

The Junior Redbirds finished the 2008 season with a league record of 10-7. Season highlights began early as the Redbirds placed third in the Conestoga Memorial Day tournament. Throughout the season, the team learned to play together as a collective unit. They finished second in the SEPA playoffs which qualified for a State Tournament play-off berth. Enthusiastic about the berth, the team kicked into a higher gear of play that ultimately led to a fourth place finish in the Pennsylvania State Tournament.

Depth of roster and tenacity were among the team's strengths. The Redbirds fielded 15 players that all contributed to the 2008 success. More importantly, the team proved to be a State contender as they posted come-from-behind wins and extra inning thrillers against Pennsylvania's toughest teams.

Congratulations to the 2008 Junior Redbirds!
