The Malvern-Paoli American Legion Baseball Association ("PaoliLegionBaseball.org") is the parent organization of
an American Legion Baseball franchise. PaoliLegionBaseball.org is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization.
Historically the name Paoli Legion is tied to the Paoli School District that until the late
1950's included what is now both Tredyffrin-Easttown and Great Valley School Districts. As
the population has grown in Chester County additional franchises have been awarded including
one to Conestoga Legion which comprises most of the T/E School District. We have however,
maintained use of our historical name as "Paoli Legion" although we now include portions of
six townships and draw students from 3 school districts and several private schools. The
Malvern-Paoli Baseball Association proudly sponsors the Senior Legion Paoli Cardinals, the
Junior Legion Malvern-Paoli Redbirds, and the Prep Legion Malvern-Paoli Junior Redbirds teams.
The Paoli Cardinals team was formed in 1961 and is one of the oldest members of the Chester
County League. In recent years the Cardinals have consistently competed for high honors in this
highly competitive 13-team league.
The Junior Legion Redbirds franchise began play in 1997 as the Cardinals ‘farm-team’ under
the leadership of Mr. Mike Flick. In only the Redbird’s 3rd year, Coach Nick Desanto (first
Paoli Legion player to continue as a coach) led the team to 1st place in the Twin-County
Playoffs, qualified for the State Championships, and – as the 5th seed – earned the runner-up
spot in the 2000 State Tournament. In 2004, the Redbirds squad posted finished runner-up in the
Southern Chester County League.
The Junior Redbirds is PaoliLegionBaseball.org’s Prep Legion team. In 2002, PA American Legion formally
developed the ‘Prep’ level to provide more players at age 13 the opportunity to enjoy the
legion baseball experience. That year the team placed 3rd in a very competitive league comprised
of teams from Chester and Delaware counties.
The Junior Redbirds team is comprised of passionate ballplayers who want to play more games
than a normal Little League schedule provides. PaoliLegionBaseball.org works closely with area Little League
programs, to the extent they wish, to coordinate schedules, thus allowing players to enjoy
the best of both worlds.
Many Paoli Legion Alumni go on to successful careers in collegiate baseball. The coaching
staff is prepared to help your son play baseball in college and interested players should
discuss their college baseball aspirations with the coaching staff as early as possible.
We are proud of our Program and hope you will consider supporting us now and in the future.
